Lockdown Update

The Recorder Consort last met for one of our twice monthly meetings in February. The plan to visit Fairford to play with their Recorder Group on Friday 13 March (could it have been any other date?) was abandoned. Since then we’ve not been able to meet due to lockdown restrictions.

This doesn’t mean that playing by consort members has stopped. Though a valiant attempt to try and do something with the ubiquitous Zoom didn’t work, members with MuseScore software have been able to play by muting a part of, say, a quartet and playing alongside the other instruments. Sources of free recorder music for solo instruments have been circulated to members and suggestions of pieces to work on have been provided so that when we do meet again we can hit the ground running. One member has acquired a book of solo pieces of ever increasing complexity. …

I think we’re all missing the music and the sessions which involve a lot of playing and a lot of laughter, but we are sure that we’ll be back playing together before too long, even if we are sitting two metres apart.  For more information contact Peter Smith (01367 241 241 or

The Consort plays interesting music in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Members play instruments ranging from sopranino to bass, which allows access to a wide range of music. Since we started in 2013, the quality of our playing has improved significantly and we have even played in public on occasion.

We meet in the afternoons of the third and last Thursday of the month at 10 Leamington Drive, Faringdon, usually starting at 2.00pm. Sessions are about two hours duration and include a break for refreshments.

If you are interested in joining, but haven’t played for a while, we would be happy to offer some tutoring to help you either by ‘one to one’ sessions or by playing straightforward pieces in a small group.
